They Tell Me To Be.....
By Heather Balke
They tell me to be the sun open and awake spreading joy over all the faces.
I tell them I am the ocean and full of secrets always moving plenty of places.
They tell me to be the sky full of dreams.
I tell them I am the wind never stopping.
They tell me to be a feather that blows away and backs down easily.
I tell them I am a tree only falling at the hardest times.
They tell me to be a pen that writes all secrets.
I tell them I am a lock that no one can open.
They tell me to be a book that can be opened and read easily.
I tell them that I am a star far away in the sky away in my own world always
dreaming and always telling lies about secrets that I keep deep inside.
They tell me to be a bright light in a dark room.
I tell them I am a shadow hiding below a log in a fire.
They tell me to be a box of gold in a prison of thieves.
I tell them I am a fly in a prison full of mice.
They tell me to give up like the rivers full of water blocked by mud.
I tell them I am a person who doesn't give up.
They tell me to be normal.
I tell them I am a person with gold hair, tan skin, green eyes, and autism.
They tell me to be a person.
I tell them I am full of ideas, art, visions, and pictures.
They tell me I am crazy.
I tell them I am brilliance.
