Assignment Accomodation for IEP's
www.iepparenthelp.com
An assignment calendar is a fundamental tool for parents of special needs kids. Requesting it on an Independent Education Plan (IEP) is simple, but maintaining compliance throughout the school year is often labor-intensive and frustrating.
I am a resident of Paso Robles, California, who has struggled for seven years to get public school teachers to comply with this accommodation in my kid’s IEP.  After years of trial and error, and talking with everyone up to trustees and superintendents, I have come up with a four-step process that truly works.
I encourage you to try it. As a matter of fact, I am hoping that you will add this accommodation to your son or daughter’s IEP. My experience has been that most teachers eventually find that the request for assignment and test information is not that big of a deal. Lesson plans are part of their job description. All the accommodation asks is that they provide them a week in advance either through the school website or email.
If multiple parents ask for the same accommodation and apply the same successful compliance strategy, then eventually it will become mainstreamed so that other struggling students and parents won't have to fight for this simple, but essental accommodation.
Sincerely,
Chris Robinson
