Position Description: Camp Director
Program: Camp Expedition
Reports to: Executive Director
Classification: Seasonal, non-exempt
Position Purpose:
The Camp Director will fulfill the mission of Camp Expedition to the best of their ability through their actions, words and interactions with other Camp staff, volunteers, and participants. The Camp Director primarily handles the administrative tasks necessary for the operation of Camp Expedition, and works collaboratively with the Program Specialist to create a well balanced and fun camp experience for all.
Essential Functions:
The Camp Director will be responsible for the following areas of direction:
Administration
Procedures
· Develop routines, schedules, and procedures for Camp operation.
· Set and supervise office procedures, opening-and closing-day procedures for staff, volunteers, and campers.
· Define and monitor crisis management plan, including emergency procedures.
· Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff.
Records
· Develop, distribute, collect and maintain records for all camp staff, volunteers, counselors in training, peer mentors and campers.
· Maintain HIPAA standards for all records.
· Maintain and review records and evaluations of all programs, operations, facilities, staff, volunteers and campers.
Finance
· Create and maintain records for Camper tuition and Baker Scholarship Fund disbursements.
· Fill out bank deposit slips and turn in to the Executive Director for deposit.
· Create and maintain records for any and all supplies and their costs; including in-kind donations and their estimated costs for budgeting purposes.
· Notify Executive Director of any donations made (including in-kind) for receipts.
· Train staff and volunteers in the use of Check Request Forms for any expenses that they may incur that are reimbursable. Authorize reimbursable expenses.
· With Executive Director, create and manage Camp budget.
Staff and Volunteers
· Assign staff and volunteers activities, placements, and other responsibilities.
· Supervise and evaluate, or supervise evaluations of, all operations and program staff and volunteers.
· Liaise closely with parents and guardians.
· Facilitate daily staff meetings.
Recruitment, Retention, and Evaluation
· Originate and carry out a system for recruiting campers, volunteers, and staff utilizing emails, brochures, telephone calls, etc.
· Organize and ensure background checks and fingerprinting for all camp staff and volunteers over 18 years of age.
· Prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service staff and volunteer trainings.
· Prepare an evaluation and summary of current staff evaluations, camper reports, and recommendations for the following year (this includes baseline phase, interventions, and generalization phase).
Program
· Define camp goals and plan program to reflect camp goals.
· Order or supervise the ordering of food, supplies, and equipment, and arrange for proper distribution.
· Organize and/ or approve trips out of camp for program, supplies, and crisis management.
· Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family.
These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
Other duties:
The Camp Director will provide Update Reports to the Executive Director for dissemination to the Board of Directors. Update Reports will include brief updates on progress toward the beginning of the Camp sessions, an overview of numbers of campers, a schedule of campers, volunteers, and staff, a break down of scholarship dollar disbursements, and all evaluations and recommendations for next years Camp.
Relationships:
The Camp Director reports to the Executive Director, and may be asked to share a report with the Board of Directors.
The Camp Director works collaboratively with the Program Specialist in the creation of the Camp Program, meeting special interests of campers, and ensuring the safety of all participants.
Necessary skills:
The Camp Director should be skilled in the administration of programs, be able to communicate effectively with parents, staff and volunteers, and understand the unique needs of individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders.
The Camp Director should be skilled in the use of computers and software such as Word, Excel, and any email program. The Camp Director should have reasonable knowledge in maintenance, office and kitchen equipment, and some familiararity with emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers.
Qualifications:
The Camp Director should have a minimum four year college degree in a related field, and preferably a post graduate degree in Special Education, Child Development, Psychology or related field. Preferred qualifications include Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA) or similar certification and/or experience in working with children with special needs and behavioral difficulties.
The Camp Director must be CPR/ First Aid certified, and pass a fingerprint and background check.
Physical requirements:
The Camp Director position requires the ability to listen to others, to observe others’ actions, to read text and information, to comprehend instructions and manuals, and the physical ability to move around the camp environment.
